About Me

Hello there! I’m Meagan.

These sections tend to start with a “where I’m from”, but I don’t have a place I consider to be “from”. My dad was in the U.S. Coast Guard so we moved around a lot, and we got to live in a lot of cool places. To me, “home” isn’t a particular location, it’s where my family is.

My husband, Josh, and I met and started dating while we were in high school in Colorado. After graduating from UCF in Orlando, FL, we felt God’s call to vocational ministry with Young Life Military / Club Beyond. We got married and moved to Europe to lead full-time outreach youth ministry with overseas military kids from 2015-2018.

During our years in Europe, we fell in love with travel. We lived in Belgium and then in Germany, and over that time we got to visit some amazing places.

I started Sunshine Wandering as a travel blog in 2015 but struggled to keep up with it. I rebranded to “The Strebes Travel” for awhile, deleted most of my old content (which I now regret), and have tried to give up on blogging so many times… but it keeps coming back to me, so here I am!

Over time Josh was led to joining the Air Force and was recruited for Officer Training School. In 2018, Josh commissioned as an active duty officer in the U.S. Air Force. We found out I was pregnant with our first baby just before moving back to the U.S., and life has been a whirlwind ever since.

Now I’m a full-time stay-at-home mom with two little tornados, and wife to an active duty Air Force aviator. We still love to explore, especially when it involves good food, coffee, and adventure!

Travel looks a little bit different for us now with two littles, but wherever we go we enjoy exploring local coffee shops, restaurants, and activities. More recently, I’ve become interested in gardening and indoor houseplants—I spent much of 2022 focused on those new hobbies.

My hope for this blog is to inspire fellow military families to explore their local community and find ways to make a temporary location feel like home—to “bloom where you’re planted” and discover joy wherever duty sends us.

Please feel free to leave a comment, follow me on social media, and share this blog with your friends. Thanks for visiting!
