About Sunshine Wandering
Part 1
Sunshine Wandering began as a travel blog in 2015. My husband and I had recently graduated from college, gotten married, and were living in Europe to lead outreach youth ministry with overseas American military kids. On our long weekends we explored locally and traveled as much as we could on a shoestring budget.
Since I have a Bachelor’s degree in English - Creative Writing, I started blogging as a way to practice writing and share tips from our many adventures. For many years I struggled with confidence and finding purpose, and I gave up on blogging a few times. I tried rebranding, and even wound up deleting much of my old content (to my later regret).
Part II
We moved back to the US in 2018 when my husband applied to be an officer in the Air Force and was accepted to OTS (Officer Training School). Just before our move, we discovered that we were expecting our first child.
Our first duty station after OTS was CSO (Combat System Officer) training at NAS Pensacola in Florida. As a new mom, life was a whirlwind and I felt even more unsure of my purpose. One day I felt the draw back to blogging, even though I didn’t have a clear vision for it. All I knew was that I wanted to revive Sunshine Wandering.
After we moved to Offutt AFB in Omaha, Nebraska in 2019, Sunshine Wandering had been on the back burner for awhile. Our second child was born in 2021 toward the end of the pandemic. Apart from a few posts about local things, I wound up taking a break for the year of 2022 while I focused on mom life and my first year of gardening.
Part III
After the hiatus, my perspective changed. I’m less worried about purpose and instead focused on making the best of our journey—wherever life takes us.
My hope for this blog is to inspire others to “bloom where you’re planted” by sharing our own journey along the way. Thanks for reading!
